Victorian J & G Meakin “Briar” Lidded Sugar Bowl c1880s Wild Rose Pattern Staffordshire
Couldn't load pickup availability
charming late Victorian lidded sugar bowl by J & G Meakin of Staffordshire, England.
The bowl is decorated in the delicate “Briar” pattern, featuring pretty pink wild roses and foliage on a soft cream ground. It has beautifully moulded naturalistic branch-form handles to either side and a matching domed lid with a twig-style finial, giving the piece a lovely botanical feel typical of Victorian design.
The underside carries the J & G Meakin & Sons mark together with the British registration diamond, dating the design to the late 19th century (circa 1880s).
The bowl stands on a round foot ring and would originally have been used for sugar or preserves, though today it makes a wonderful decorative piece for a dresser, kitchen shelf, or antique tableware collection.
A delightful example of Victorian Staffordshire transferware with elegant sculptural detail.
